There is really only one reasonable way to get to know the professional editors, publishers and authors of SF/F/H--go to a convention and meet them. But why should you go to all of that trouble?

• Concentration: you'll never get more of them in one place. Increase your odds of interacting with them by being where they are.
• Education: getting to know the luminaries in the field is a real eye-opener. There is much to learn, young Padawan...
• Relaxation: these are some of the most interesting and entertaining people in the world. The creative minds that create the visions we all love to read and the evil intelligences behind those last ten rejection notices. Visit exotic cities with them! Go to late night parties! Be a part of the tales they tell the folks back at the publishing office!

We've been attending 1-2 major cons each year for the last few years and have no regrets other than wishing we wrote and submitted more. If you can swing the expense, then make time for a Con in your busy schedule. It's that much easier if you are a member of NobleFusion--we travel in supportive packs and do what we can to share expenses and make it manageable for everyone.
